Volunteer as a Literacy Tutor

People Upgrading Their Literacy Skills Need Your Help!

Help support individuals who want to improve their reading, writing and basic math. Tutor Training is free. Classes are held in the fall and spring each year.

Qualifications Required:

  • comfort with reading, writing, and basic math
  • a sincere belief in the importance of literacy in individual lives and in society as a whole

Prerequisites To Volunteering

  • age 19 or older
  • a criminal record check
  • interested in learning and helping other people to learn
  • sensitive to the issues of people with low literacy skills and be willing to learn about and understand these issues
  • comfortable and non-judgmental with people from a wide variety of backgrounds
  • able to commit to helping people for at least 6 months, 3 - 6 hours/week (taking breaks for holidays is OK)
