Family Literacy Day Schedule
Tuesday January 27th, 2009 is Family Literacy Day and there will be special events all over town!
Events:
- 9 – 2 Robron Centre – book exchange, read-a-thon, computer literacy, readers’ theatre, First Nations stories, math literacy
- 10:30 Campbell River Library – Story Time for Babies and new preschool computer stations
- 10:30 Backpacks for Literacy Georgia Park School Strong Start Centre - Literacy Now will launch a new program for 0-6 year olds that consists of backpacks that are borrowed and traded in at a variety of children’s programming centres
- 11:30 Campbell River Library – Story Time for Toddlers and new preschool computer stations
- 1:30 Campbell River Library – Story Time for Preschoolers and new preschool computer stations
- 10 – 11 Health Unit – stories read to children waiting their immunizations. Free books
- 11 – 12 Coho Books – stories and cookies.
- 12:00 – 2:00 Grand Opening of the Salvation Army’s Literacy Room at the Lighthouse Centre.
- 12:20 – 1 Community Hall Lobby – story time with Joyce McMann and Claire Trevena
- 1:30 – 2:30 London Drugs - come hear a story and receive a goodie bag and a book.
- 2:30 – 3:30 Laichwiltach Family Life Centre – story-time with Elder Sophia Hansen
- 5 – 6 pm CR Storm Hockey Story and Swim - Storm players will be reading hockey stories to families in the Strathcona Gardens lobby. All participants get a free pass for the leisure swim. Hockey book prizes.
- All Day Association Francophone – drop in for French stories and English information on French culture
- All Day all Family Place locations - Let’s Read Together
- All Day Home Hardware – drop in for literacy information and surprise fun!
- All Day Odyssey Computers – drop in for Internet surfing literacy
- All Day Elementary School Libraries
North Island College launches their new library card program
Reading Challenge: all participating daycare and childcare centres will record their reading time during that week. The centre recording the most time will win a visit from SHOOSHOO the clown. All participants will receive a book.
