Our Past
As a Literacy Now community our planning process focuses on building partnerships, networking and sharing best practices. Our process took place in four stages:
Stage One: Getting Started September 2004
Members of the community were invited to take part in a bold strategy designed to increase the literacy levels of children, youth and adults at a community launch at the Maritime Heritage Centre. We submitted an expression of interest to 2010 Legacies Now and formed a literacy task group.
Stage Two: Preparing our Community Plan April 2005 - March 2006
We demonstrated a broad base of interest and commitment within the community and applied for funds to develop a literacy plan. We were successful in our application. We collected our data through a series of community meetings, the production of a DVD and through qualitative and quantitative research. Once our data was collected we completed our community plan.
